Diverter Valve

Diverter valve - single seat valveA diverter valve is a mechanical or electro-mechanical device that is used to control the flow of media through a piping system. It can control the flow of liquid or steam from one port to another or in many cases it can be simply used for isolating one path from the other. The purpose of a diverter valve is to allow the flow of media to more than one outlet port this allows the media to be diverted to another part of the process.

How does a Industrial diverter valve work?

A diverter valve can work by means of a manual handle on pneumatic actuation, this is used to rotate the ball inside the valve body to effect the path of flow. The applications of a diverter valve are application specific but the main purpose stellar the flow of media to several ports.

What are the different types of diverter valves?

There are several different types of diverter valves available, the most important thing to remember is the selection of the correct port pattern, these can be side entry our bottom entry valves, there are quite literally hundreds of different combinations depending on the application the media and many other factors beside.

What is the difference between 3-way diverter valves and 5-way diverter valves?

The difference between a 3 way and a 5 way diverter valve is as follows:

A 3 way diverter valve depending on whether it’s side entry or bottom entry will only have 3 ports but it is possible to have up to four different positions with a variable path flow design, the valve can also rotate 90 degrees, 180 degrees or 360 degrees to achieve the correct flow path.

A5 way diverter valve will have 5 port combinations with four possible position outcomes and again this can be achieved by rotating the valve 90 degrees, 180 degrees or 360 degrees depending on the combination needed a five way multi-port pattern can only be achieved by bottom entry.

How do I know if a diverter valve is faulty?

If the valve is faulty it is normally the seals which are worn or damaged and allowing the media to flow or seep to the un-select path this in turn may give production problems, normally a replacement seat kit will fix this issue
